Should You Have a
Personal Umbrella or Excess Liability
Policy?
Umbrella and Excess Liability policies provide another layer of liability coverage in addition to your personal insurance policies. This would include your home, auto, boat or RV. Should you be sued, your personal policy will provide only the personal policy limits, most commonly $300,000 or $500,000. This would include any judgment against you as well as attorney fees. You may find yourself with insufficient limits to cover all the costs. The umbrella or excess policies would provide another layer of liability limits to work with. Personal umbrella and excess policy limits are written in increments of $1,000,000. The average annual premium for a $1,000,000 policy is $125 to $250. Many people are concerned about how much coverage to purchase. Consider your net worth and exposures you may have (young driver in the household, etc). The following are examples of cases in which an umbrella or excess policy was needed:

Clear Choice Health Plans: A
Different Kind of Health Insurance Company
When asked what makes
Clear Choice Health Plans different from other health
insurance providers, Randy Cline, Vice President of Marketing
and Sales, pauses for only a second before
answering. “We are realize that patient-provider
relationships are the foundation of superior managed health
care,” he explains. “We are dedicated to
working closely with our customers and the medical community
to find ways to improve the quality and value of health care
our members receive.”
Clear Choice Health
Plans celebrate it tenth anniversary in 2005 and continues to
prosper. This is not only because Clear Choice is guided
by community values and committed to superior service, but it
emphasizes access to quality physicians and hospitals,
friendly service, and comprehensive coverage in a
confidential setting. Its mission is to proactively
engage its customers in creating and implementing innovative
solutions to meeting their health care needs. Hence,
helping Clear Choice members achieve improved health and
well-being by simplifying the healthcare insurance
experience.
Seen
as an innovator (one of its core values), Clear Choice was
the first provider-sponsored Medicare Plus plans in the
country and has won national attention for its novel programs
for determining medical necessity and
pay-for-performance. More recently, the company had been
recognized by the Legislature as the most successful model in
the State for demonstrating how a community works together to
solve the problem of health care for low-income
residents.
Clear
Choice Health Plans (then known as Central Oregon Independent
Practice Association) was formed in 1993, by a group of local
physicians to serve Medicare and Oregon Health Plan patients
in Central and Eastern Oregon. Later that year, they
were joined by the Central Oregon Network of
Hospitals. Although the organization’s total focus
was merely administering the Oregon Health Plan, it laid the
foundation for what we know today as an innovative insurance
company that offers health insurance, including individual
plans, Medicare Advantage plans, commercial plans, and
administrative services to individuals and business through
out Central Oregon, Eastern Oregon and the Columbia River
Gorge.
Clear
Choice Health Plans covers over 38,000 individual customers
while providing access to high quality care from more than
1,000 physicians and hospitals in its Oregon
markets. And that number continues to grow. Clear
Choice is currently expanding it focus to include the
mid-Willamette Valley of Linn, Benton and Marion
counties. Later on this year customers in Montana will
also be able to join the Clear Choice family as the
organization diversifies its services to like markets.
Where
are they going from here? “The competitiveness of the
health insurance industry, combined with the increasing costs
of medical services and the real challenges for any health
plan provider,” states Cline. “But we at
Clear Choice are planning for the years to come, by looking
at how we must diversify to keep the dollars coming in, in
order to keep providing quality service to our
customer”.
